Mekenna Sharee Brown

On September 13 2006, Mekenna's mother, Melissa, left Mekenna in the care of her friend, Steve Estep. That day she was attending a collage quiz and needed someone to take care of her 21 month old daughter. In the time the Steve was looking after Mekenna, he shook her very violently. He claimed that he had gotten frustrated with Mekenna when she was crying. Mekenna was rushed to hospital but passed away on September 14 from sever brain injuries. Steve Estep was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS) happens when a baby is shook. The baby's brain can't take the force that is happening to it and therefore stops working. If a baby survives SBS it will most likely suffer serious disabilities for the rest of their life.
