Logan was abused by his mother's boyfriend for many months before his death.

In August, the child protection was called around after a statement of Logan being abused. Days later, Michael called 911 saying that Logan wasn't breathing. Logan died at the hospital. A medical examiner found that Logan  had been brutally beaten, cut, burned and raped. His head was bashed, his stomach kicked so hard that his liver ruptured. His head injuries were so bad that they could have caused his death, head force trauma.

His bottom, head and feet had second and third degree burns, because Logan had been dipped into scaling, boiling water. He was sexually assaulted. Autopsy also revealed that Logan's penis had been pinched and pulled so hard that it burst a blood vessel. His scrotum had been bitten.

Michael Merrifield was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
