On March 9 2010, Haydon was left in the care of his mother's boyfriend, Thomas Greenwood, whilst his mother was attending a court hearing for a other family member. At some point, Thomas Greenwood became extremely mad at Haydon, so he beat him.

Thomas told police at the time of his arrest that he himself suffered a seizure and when he fell the Haydon's head struck a bedrail in the bedroom where he was standing. Medical examiner's report shows "blunt force trauma" as the cause of death. They also said that Haydon's sever injuries could not have been caused by that. Thomas Greenwood then confessed to beating Haydon.

Thomas Greenwood was charged with a life sentence, however he now is eligible for parole after he spends 51 years in prison.
