Mikayla Leslie Laurenson
November 12 2004 - August 11 2007
Age: 2 years old
At about 16 months Mikayla was still falling over a lot and unsteady with her walking. Her parents took her a doctor and they thought it was her hips out of line. That night Mikayla had a seizure and she was taken to A&E they kept her in overnight but they said it was because her temperature got too high.
Mikayla was taken to a children's physiotherapist who told them after examinig Mikayla that it looked like Cerebral Palsy. However on February 13 2007, Mikayla was diagnosed with
Metachromatic Leukodystrophy a very rare genetic disease. There is no treatment or cure.
They then told her parents that Mikayla would stop walking, talking, swallowing, blindness, dementia,more seizures and become very floppy.
In April 2007, Mikayla stopped walking, about June she stopped talking and sitting up and in July she needed a feeding tube to assist with her swallowing and her head was very floppy.
On August 11 2007, her mother went into Mikayla's room to wake her up, only to find her face down in bed, when she rolled her over she screamed. The doctor confirmed she had vomited and had a seizure during the night. Mikayla had flown to heaven.
