Brooklynne Traina

Brooklynne Grace Traina
April 18, 2007 - June 28, 2009
Age: 2 years old

Brooklynne  was born on April 18th 2007 to Darla and Ryan Traina in Oregon, USA. Brooklynne, affectionately called “Boo”, was a very cheerful, loving, kind and happy little toddler. She loved her babysitter, eating chicken nuggets and chips, horses, playing with her baby dolls, cartoons, chasing her dog, riding her four-wheeler and picking flowers. On June 28th 2009, 2-year-old Brooklynne and her parents had been to a waterpark with their friends. Brooklynne's parents put her to bed, and then fell asleep themselves, after a long day at the water park. During this time, Brooklynne woke up, climbed out of her crib, walked out her room, down the stairs,  opened a baby gate and walked through the house. She somehow got outside into the back yard. Brooklynne dragged a small plastic chair to the pool safety gate so she could unlock it. Darla later woke up and found Brooklynne’s crib empty, she then found the baby gate open and the back door open she then found little Brooklynne face down in the pool. Darla performed CPR and she was rushed to the hospital, but she sadly did not survive.

Rest in paradise, Brooklynne.

Alissa Guernsey

Alissa Beth Guernsey
November 2, 2007 - March 28, 2009
Age: 16 months old

Alissa Beth Guernsey was born on November 2nd 2007 to Kelli Sprunger and Michael Guernsey in Indiana, USA. Alissa was a normal, happy, healthy baby when she left her mother’s home. In November 2008, Alissa's father was killed in a tragic car accident. A month later, Alissa's mother began finding it very difficult to care for her three children as she was devastated over the death of Michael. Therefore, 13-month-old Alissa and her two siblings were put in foster care. Kelli's cousin, Christy Shaffer, offered to care for Kelli's children while she gets back on her feet. On December 9th 2008, Alissa was put in the care of Christy and her husband. She already had four children of her own, so she was now looking after seven children. On January 27th 2009, Alissa is taken to the doctor after getting a injury above her eye. Christy claimed that Alissa fell off a chair. In February 2009, Alissa is taken to the doctor again, her hair was falling out and there was bruises all over her face and body. On March 19th, Alissa's elbow was fractured and Christy claimed that a dog had knocked Alissa over. 11 days later, she Christy drove to McDonald's and ordered food at the drive through window. Meanwhile, 16-month-old Alissa was strapped in her carseat dying. Late, she was taken to hospital and sadly died. Alissa was found to have many bruises on her head as well as over her body. Inside Alissa's mouth was an open wound about one inch in size, in the process of healing. It was later determined that Alissa's hair had been pulled out of her head and had not just been falling out on its own. Christy spent 77 days in prison and three years’ probation. Christy’s father happened to be friends with the judge. Her father was also friends with the prosecutor, Jeff Wible, and the doctor, John Egli, who essentially watched Alissa die a slow painful death, never once doing anything to save her.

Rest in paradise, Alissa.

Janessa Toney

Janessa Lyn Toney
January 4, 2003 - September 28, 2008
Age: 5 years old

The Toney family owned an 18-foot pleasure craft. On September 27, 2008, the large group set off sailed on Lake Newell near Brooks, southeast of Calgary. Their boat hit a rock at around 5 p.m., damaging the propeller. Janessa’s father, Allen, tried to repair the boat unsuccessfully and later called 911 for assistance. While they waited for help to arrive, their boat drifted to the southern shore of the lake around 7 p.m.  A fish and wildlife office, a RCMP constable and a peace officer found the family struggling on the boat. They attempted to help.

Sadly, soon after, it capsized, dumping the Fish and Wildlife officer, the RCMP constable, the peace officer and the family of five into the water, and trapping five-year-old Janessa underneath. Her cries for her parents and screams could be heard for hours as the boat drifted on the lake. All attempts to save Janessa from under the boat failed as she and boat carried on floating down the river. Janessa died from drowning alone, freezing, trapped under the boat in the darkness as the boat floated down the river. The boat wasn’t towed to shore until the next morning, at which point Janessa was discovered. She was taken to Foothills Hospital in Calgary, where she was pronounced dead by drowning.

Savannah Cullen

Savannah Marie Cullen
May 29, 2005 - November 3, 2006
Age: 17 months old

Savannah Marie Cullen was born on May 29, 2005 to Dominic and Shauneen Cullen in California, USA. On November 3, 2006, 17 month old Savannah was put down for a nap but never woke up. She died due to SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome)

Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), also known as cot death or crib death, is the sudden unexplained death of a child of less than one year of age. Diagnosis requires that the death remains unexplained even after a thorough autopsy and detailed death scene investigation. SIDS usually occurs during sleep. The items in a baby's crib and his or her sleeping position can combine with a baby's physical problems to increase the risk of SIDS. Despite this, overall, SIDS cannot be prevented and there are no warnings. RIP Savannah.

Sarvia Velasquez

Sarvia Elizabeth Velasquez
February 10, 2009 - May 2, 2010
Age: 15 months old

In March 2010, people could tell that something was not right with Sarvia who was usually a very happy child. She didn't like to be touched any more and was edgy all the time, she also had bad diaper rashes that showed she was not being changed enough.

Then Sarvia suffered a broken leg and sadly, while she was just learning to stand up and talk, Sarvia suffered a second broken leg, less than a week later. In fact, Sarvia had suffered at least four broken bones while living with her mother and her mother's boyfriend.

On May 2, 2010, paramedics were called the home of Sarvia's mother. She was taken to the hospital where an autopsy was at first inconclusive though a later autopsy, done in December, showed that she had died of asphyxia and her death was not accidental. Sarvia's mother and her boyfriend were questioned and neither could be ruled out as a suspect in her death. Nobody has ever been charged for the murder of Sarvia. RIP Sarvia.

Ronald DiMambro was sentenced to life in prison. RIP Damian.

Elizabeth Byrd

Elizabeth Ann Byrd
August 23, 1992 - May 23, 2001
Age: 8 years old

Elizabeth Ann Byrd was born on August 23, 1992 in Arizona, USA. She was a kind, loving child who especially enjoyed music. She wanted to be a famous singer when she grew up.

On the morning of May 23, 2001, 8 year old Elizabeth left the trailer where she lived with her mother at approximately 8:00 a.m. to go to school.  A man by the name of Steven Newell approached Elizabeth while she was walking.  Elizabeth knew him, because he had dated her older sister for a few months.  Elizabeth told him that she was late for school and she couldn't talk to him.  Steven then persuaded her to take a "short cut" to school through a field with irrigation ditches. Once the two were out of sight of others, Steven attacked Elizabeth, first raping her and then taking a strap from her backpack and strangling her with it.  After Elizabeth was dead, Newell wrapped her body in a carpet and threw her into a water-filled drainage ditch.

Steven Newell was arrested approximately two weeks later.  He admitted to raping the little girl and wrapping the strap around her neck, but he denied killing her. On February 26, 2004, Steven Newell was found guilty of Elizabeth's murder and sentenced to death. RIP  Elizabeth.
